Janitorial

Shovels, scrapers, sweepers, and flexi tubs for keeping workshops, yards, and sites clear. Built for daily knock-about — metal or wooden handles, steel blades, wide sweeper heads. Pick based on the job: narrow snow shovels for tight spaces, general-purpose for aggregate and spoil, workshop scrapers for floors, folding shovels for vans. All Sealey kit.

Handle choice matters. Wooden handles flex slightly under load and are kinder on the hands in cold weather, but they split if left wet. Metal handles — typically steel tube with a polymer grip — take more abuse and store outside without rotting. Check the shaft length: 900 mm suits most users for digging and shifting; shorter shafts (around 710 mm) give better control in confined areas or when working from a kneeling position.

Snow shovels are lighter and wider than general-purpose types, designed to shift volume without catching edges. The 545 mm width clears paths quickly; the 395 mm fits between racking or through doorways. Neither is meant for breaking ice or levering frozen ground — use a scraper or spade for that.

Workshop floor scrapers have a flat, wide blade set at a low angle. The 300 mm size shifts dried cement, cured sealant, or packed swarf without gouging concrete. Pair it with a stiff-bristle sweeper to finish: the 800 mm model covers large floors; the 650 mm works around machinery. Flexi tubs (the 40-litre yellow type here) corral the swept waste and won't crack if you stand on the rim by accident.

Folding shovels lock open for use and collapse for storage in a van or tractor cab. The 590 mm length is a compromise — long enough to be useful, short enough to fit behind a seat. Check the hinge is tight before buying; a sloppy joint will fold under load.
