Choose the cutter by pipe material and wall thickness. Rubber tube cutters work on fuel line, air hose, and thin-wall plastic — blade closes through the material without crushing it. Plastic pipe cutters use a ratchet action and are sized by maximum diameter; they leave a square end but can distort soft PVC if the blade is dull. For copper and thin steel tube, a roller cutter scribes the cut and snaps clean; sizes are given as the maximum tube OD. Reinforced hose cutters have a heavier blade and die-cast body to handle braided rubber and multi-layer hydraulic hose without fraying the layers.

Threading kits cut BSPT parallel threads on steel pipe for compression fittings and unions. Each kit includes a ratchet die stock, die heads for the size range, a reamer to deburr the pipe end, and a cutting compound. The 1/4" to 1-1/4" kit covers domestic heating and compressed air; the 3/8" to 2" range is for larger bore steam, water, and gas mains. Match the die size to the pipe OD — BSPT nominal sizes are slightly smaller than the actual OD. If the thread is loose in the fitting, the die is worn or the pipe OD is undersize; verify with a calliper before threading.

Pipe vices hold round stock for cutting, threading, or welding. Bench-mount models clamp to the worktop and have serrated or chain jaws; jaw width is the maximum pipe diameter they'll grip securely. Adjustable wrenches for pipe work have a multi-angle head that seats on hex unions and valve bodies at any rotation — this is faster than repositioning a fixed-angle wrench in tight spaces. Jaw capacity is the maximum hex flat-to-flat measurement.
