Extension Bars

Extension bars let you reach fasteners behind obstructions or deep inside housings where a ratchet body won't fit. They connect between your socket and drive tool, adding length without changing the drive size. Premier makes them in 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", and 3/4" square drives, covering light assembly work through heavy plant maintenance.

Match the bar length to the job. A 75 mm bar gives you clearance around brake callipers or inside gearbox bells without the flex of a longer piece. 150–200 mm bars suit general vehicle work and most industrial tasks. The 400 mm 3/4" bar reaches oil-pan plugs on large engines or axle nuts behind diff housings.

Drive size matters for torque transfer. Use 1/4" for electronics enclosures and instrument fittings, 3/8" for general fasteners up to M12 or 1/2", 1/2" for suspension bolts and most structural work, 3/4" for heavy plant—track pins, excavator bucket pins, lorry wheel nuts. Mismatch the drive to the load and you'll either snap the bar or round the socket corners.

Wobble extensions have a spring-loaded ball joint at the socket end. They let you work at an angle when you can't line up square—common around chassis rails or pipework. The joint adds slight play, so tighten critical fastenings with a rigid bar for the final pass. Chrome vanadium is standard; check the knurled grip if you're working in oil or hydraulic fluid.
