Grease Nipples

Grease nipples let you force lubricant into bearings, bushings, and pivot points without stripping down the assembly. Straight, 45°, and 90° angles match the space you have around the joint. Thread pitch and diameter need to match the tapped hole — common sizes run M6 × 1 mm, M8 × 1 mm, M8 × 1.25 mm, and M10 × 1 mm. Check the original fitting before you order replacements.

Angle choice depends on grease-gun access. Straight nipples work when you can come in square to the face. Right-angle fittings suit recessed mountings or sideways approach — common on steering knuckles, loader pins, and linkage pivots. Forty-five-degree types split the difference when clearance is tight but not fully blocked.

Thread pitch matters. M8 × 1 mm and M8 × 1.25 mm look identical until you cross-thread the hole. Metric fine (1 mm) is typical on hydraulic rams and newer machinery; 1.25 mm pitch turns up on older equipment and some agricultural kit. If the nipple goes in one turn then binds, you have the wrong pitch. Measure with a thread gauge or match to the fitting you took out.

Pack of 25 keeps spares on hand. Nipples snap off when struck, seize after years of salt and grit, or strip out when overtightened with the wrong spanner. Replace any that no longer take grease cleanly — a blocked nipple forces grease past seals or leaves the joint dry.
