Impact adaptors step between square drive sizes — 1/2" to 3/8", 3/4" to 1/2", 1" to 3/4", and the reverse combinations. Useful when you need a larger gun on a smaller fastener or want to run a compact socket on a bigger driver. Check the direction: female (receiving) and male (tang) ends matter, and you can't reverse them.

Universal joints (U-joints) angle the socket off-axis when you're working around chassis rails, suspension arms, or pipe runs. They let the socket sit at an angle while the drive stays in line with the gun. Impact-rated U-joints use through-hardened pins and thicker yokes than workshop U-joints; they won't shear under the cyclic load of an impact wrench. That said, they add length and a pivot point — fine for access work, less ideal if you're chasing maximum torque on a tight fastener where any flex costs you breakaway force.
