Abrasive Hand Pads
Abrasive hand pads handle surface prep where sandpaper clogs or tears—deburring welded joints, scuffing between paint coats, cleaning rust without gouging the base metal. Sealey pads use synthetic fibre impregnated with abrasive grit, so they flex around curves and last longer than paper on uneven surfaces.

Hand pads are graded like sandpaper, but the flexible backing means they work differently. Medium grade cuts through mill scale and weld spatter without loading up as fast as 80-grit paper would. Fine grade preps bare metal for primer or scuffs cured paint before topcoat—it leaves a consistent scratch pattern that adhesion promoters grab onto. Ultra-fine is for flatting between finish coats or polishing out small defects without breaking through to primer.
The 150 x 230mm size folds in half for edge work or stays flat for broader panels. Rinse them under a tap between passes to clear the fibres—clogged pads burnish instead of cut. They wear down gradually, not all at once like paper, so you'll feel when they stop biting. Match the grade to the job and stock up on the ones you use most.
