Jigs

Jigs hold, guide, or position workpieces while you drill, cut, or join them — essentially turning freehand operations into repeatable, accurate ones. Sealey's range includes dowelling jigs for joinery work and drill stands that clamp a handheld drill into a vertical press. If you're drilling angled holes in metal stock, joining cabinet frames, or working anywhere repeatability matters more than speed, a jig removes guesswork.

Dowelling jigs typically clamp onto board edges and hold drill bushings at fixed centres — 6 mm, 8 mm, 10 mm are common dowel diameters. Check the jig's maximum board thickness and whether the bushings are replaceable; worn bushings let the bit wander. Some sets include depth stops and centre pins for marking opposing holes — useful when you're aligning two boards without a reference face.

Drill stands convert a handheld drill into a pillar drill by clamping the drill body into a sliding carriage. The 500 mm column height determines maximum workpiece clearance; the 65 mm vice is for holding small parts or bar stock. Cast iron bases dampen vibration better than pressed steel. Check the drill collar fits your drill — most stands accommodate 38–43 mm necks, but measure first. The return spring and depth stop let you set consistent hole depths without marking each piece.

Match the jig to the tolerance you need. Dowelling jigs give you 0.5 mm hole-to-hole accuracy if you clamp them square; drill stands manage 0.2–0.3 mm runout with a decent drill. For production work or tighter tolerances, you'll want a pillar drill or CNC, but for site joinery, cabinet assembly, or one-off metalwork, these tools close the gap between freehand and machine work.
