Lathe/Drilling
Lathe and drilling accessories cover the tooling and work-holding you need to set up precision cuts, bore accurate holes, and hold work securely on the machine. From MT taper chucks and live centres to steady rests and indexable tooling, these parts determine how repeatable your setup is and how cleanly the cut finishes. Pick the right Morse taper for your headstock or tailstock, match chuck capacity to your typical work diameter, and check thread pitch before ordering cutting gear.

Morse taper sizes matter—MT1 fits smaller lathes and tailstocks, MT2 suits mid-range machines. Check your machine spec before ordering a chuck or live centre; a mismatch won't seat and the taper will slip under load. Live centres reduce friction on long work; fixed centres are fine for light facing but generate heat on extended turning. If you're supporting slender shafts or long bar stock, a steady rest keeps deflection in check—fixed steadies bolt to the bed, moving steadies follow the carriage. The difference shows up in chatter marks and out-of-round bores.
Indexable carbide tooling uses replaceable inserts, so you swap the edge instead of resharpening the whole cutter. End mills with MT shanks lock straight into the tailstock or vertical head for milling flats or drilling centres. Thread-cutting kits include taps, dies, and pitch gauges—metric sets cover M3 to M12 in 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, and 1.25 pitches, which handles most general engineering work. Parting and boring tool holders take standard-size HSS or carbide blanks; check the shank height matches your toolpost.
Quick vices clamp work for drilling or light milling without needing to indicate and bolt a four-jaw. Jaw width and throat depth limit what fits—50 mm suits small components, anything bigger needs a larger frame or a proper machine vice. Tailstock chucks hold drill bits, reamers, or centre drills; capacity should cover your common shank sizes, typically 1–10 mm or 3–16 mm depending on model.
