Floor Grinding Blocks

Floor grinding blocks fit hand grinders or scarifiers to level concrete, remove coatings, or prep surfaces for screeds and toppings. Worksafe blocks come in standard 50 × 50 × 100 mm dimensions with aluminium-oxide grit bonded into a resin matrix. Grit choice depends on the job — coarse for fast stock removal, fine for blending and finishing. Pick the grade that matches the substrate hardness and the finish you need.

Grit selection drives cutting speed and surface texture. 12-grit and 24-grit blocks strip thick coatings, level high spots, and remove cured screed quickly; expect visible scratches and a rough profile. 36-grit balances removal rate with a finer finish — useful for intermediate passes or less aggressive levelling. 60-grit polishes the surface smoother and blends out deeper scratch marks left by coarser grades. Running too coarse on thin toppings risks gouging; too fine on heavy material wastes time and loads the abrasive with dust.

Block life varies with concrete hardness, grit loaded into the surface, and downforce. Hard aggregates and embedded steel wear the abrasive faster. Clean the block face regularly — clogged grit cuts slowly and generates heat. Rotate or flip blocks as one edge wears to use the full face. Keep even pressure across the block to avoid rocking, which rounds the edges and leaves an uneven cut. Match the block size to your grinder's shoe or holder — 50 × 50 mm is common, but always check the fitment before starting.
