Blade choice depends on the material and the cut type. Bi-metal blades handle nails embedded in timber without snapping; wood blades cut faster in clean softwood but dull quickly on metal. For metal, a fine-tooth blade reduces vibration and burr. Plunge blades have a tapered or offset tip for starting cuts in the middle of a board or panel — useful for sink cut-outs or boxed-in pipework.
Sanding sheets wear fastest on edges and corners. If you're feathering filler or taking paint off mouldings, a triangular pad gets into profiles that a random orbital won't reach. Check the backing-pad diameter matches your tool's mount — 88 mm and 90 mm are common but not interchangeable. Velcro wears out before the motor does; a spare pad saves the tool.
Multi-packs spread the cost if you're cutting through mixed materials on one job. Individual blades make sense when you know exactly what you're cutting. Keep a scraper blade for silicone, adhesive, or tile grout — metal-cutting teeth clog in soft compounds.
