Jacking & Lifting

Jacking and lifting gear for workshop, farm, and site work. Bottle jacks from 3 to 50 tonne for static lifts, folding and fixed engine cranes for pulling units, plus axle stands, beam clamps, chain blocks, and trolleys. Match the capacity to the load and check the lift height before you buy — a 20-tonne jack with a 200mm stroke won't help if you need 300mm clearance.

Bottle jacks work well for compact, high-load lifts where space is tight — under a tractor axle or behind a beam. The smaller units (3–12 tonne) fit in a toolbox; the 20-tonne and above need secure footing and a flat surface to avoid side-loading the ram. Check minimum and maximum lift heights against your job — you can't wind back past the closed height, and once you hit full extension, you're done.

Engine cranes are rated for the load at the shortest boom position. A 2-tonne crane at full extension might only lift 500kg safely. Folding frames save floor space but check the leg spread when set up — you need clearance around the engine bay. Fixed-frame cranes are more stable for repeated heavy pulls.

Axle stands go under the lift point after you've jacked — never work under a jack alone. Beam clamps and trolleys suit I-beams and gantries; match the clamp width to your beam flange and check the load rating includes the trolley weight if you're running one. Chain blocks are for vertical or angled pulls where you need control — two-fall and four-fall options trade speed for force.
