Standard round bungees suit most workshop and vehicle tie-down jobs. Lengths from 460 mm to 1000 mm let you match the cord to the load — shorter cords pull tighter, longer runs give more reach across a trailer bed or roof rack. Check the hook type: plastic-coated steel resists scratching but can crack if overtensioned, plain steel hooks grip tighter on older anchor points.
Flat bungee straps spread load across a wider surface, useful on bodywork or anything you don't want dented. They sit flatter under a tarp and don't roll off curved loads as easily as round cord. Octopus designs have multiple arms from a central hub — faster to rig over odd-shaped cargo, though each arm carries less tension than a single full-length cord.
Sets with mixed sizes cover more situations without buying individual cords. A 10-piece or 20-piece kit gives you short cords for toolboxes, mid-length for ladders or sheet goods, and longer runs for stacked loads. Replace cords when the elastic feels slack or the outer sheath shows wear — a stretched cord won't hold, and a frayed one can snap under tension and whip back.
