Tie Downs

Ratchet straps for securing loads on trailers, flatbeds, and car transporters. These range from 3m to 10m lengths with breaking strengths rated at 3000kg, 4500kg, or 5000kg depending on the strap. Fifty-millimetre polyester webbing is standard — wide enough to spread the load without damaging surfaces, narrow enough to thread through most anchor points.

Match the breaking strength to what you're carrying. A 3000kg strap handles most general haulage; 4500kg and 5000kg ratings suit heavier plant, machinery, or vehicles. Breaking strength is the lab failure point — working load limit is typically one-quarter to one-sixth of that, depending on the angle and number of attachment points. If you're securing a two-tonne load with four straps at vertical angles, 3000kg units will do. If you're running over one anchor point or using the strap at a steep angle, move up a rating.

Car transporter straps often come with wheel cradle fittings instead of flat hooks — these wrap around alloy or steel wheels without scratching the rim. Check the fitting type before you buy. Alloy wheel versions use softer-edged hooks; steel wheel versions use standard claw hooks. The strap length matters more than you'd think: a 3m strap barely reaches across a twin-axle trailer if you're anchoring to the chassis rail, but it's fine for tying down to deck rings. For awkward loads or longer trailers, 6m to 10m lengths give you routing options without splicing two straps together.

Polyester webbing resists UV better than nylon and doesn't stretch as much when wet. Store them dry and check for cuts or abraded sections every few trips — a frayed edge halves the working load. Ratchets jam if you over-tighten or let grit into the mechanism, so back off half a click once the load stops moving and rinse the ratchet housing after muddy work.
