Parts Cleaning Tanks
Parts cleaning tanks take the guesswork out of degreasing bearings, filters, carburettors, and oily components. Most models recirculate solvent through a pump or tap — you brush the part over a perforated tray, dirty fluid drains back into the reservoir, and a coarse filter catches swarf before it clogs the pump. Mobile units roll under hoists; bench models fit tight spaces. Air-operated washers use shop air instead of an electric pump, useful in wet bays or where spark risk matters.

Tank capacity sets how much solvent you keep on hand and how often you top up or dispose of spent fluid. A 15-litre bench washer suits small workshops doing carb jets and sensor housings; 50–80-litre mobile units handle gearbox casings and diff parts; 136-litre deep tanks take long shafts and steering racks without tilting them. Check the tray dimensions if you regularly clean bulky items — some wide pans still have shallow wells that won't submerge a cam cover flat.
Pump type affects flow and maintenance. Electric pumps push solvent up a flexi-hose to a brush or parts-washing gun; if the pump seal leaks, you'll smell solvent and need to replace the cartridge. Air-operated models use a venturi or diaphragm driven by compressed air — no motor to short out, but you lose flow if shop pressure drops below about 90 psi. Portable and bench washers often use a gravity tap instead of a pump; you open the valve, brush the part, close it when done. Slower, but nothing to break.
Tray design matters more than it looks. Perforated trays let muck fall through; solid trays with a drain slot keep small parts contained but need scraping out more often. Turbo or agitator features stir solvent to lift stubborn carbon — helpful for injector bodies, less so for bearings where you want gentle flow. Some tanks include a parts-cleaning brush with an integrated hose; others need a separate brush or parts gun. If you already have an air gun, check whether the washer lid has a filler cap or quick-connect stub for topping up while the pump runs.
Match the solvent to the washer material. Most steel tanks take white spirit, paraffin, or water-based degreasers; check the pump-seal spec if you plan to run acetone or brake cleaner long-term. Sealey publish solvent-compatibility notes in the manual — worth reading before you fill the reservoir and find the gasket swollen shut a week later.
