Barrel Bunds

Barrel bunds and spill pallets catch leaks from drums, IBCs, and other fluid containers before they hit the workshop floor. They're required under waste storage regulations and keep oil, coolant, diesel, and chemicals contained if a seal fails or you overfill during transfer. Sealey's polyethylene bunds sit under one, two, or four drums; IBC bunds take a bulk container; and work floor pallets handle mixed loads or temporary staging.

Match sump capacity to what you're storing. A 205-litre drum needs at least a 60-litre bund to meet the 110% rule for single containers; four drums want 280 litres or more. Polyethylene bunds resist most oils, coolants, and dilute acids without corroding, but check chemical compatibility if you're storing aggressive solvents or concentrated alkalis — some fluids attack plastic over time.

Low-profile trays (30–60 litres) fit under a single drum or small parts washer; grid platforms lift the drum clear so the tap sits above the rim. Taller four-drum pallets and IBC bunds have forklift pockets and removable decks for pump access. Work floor pallets join together if you need to cover a larger footprint or park a bowser. Ramps bolt on when you're wheeling drums or trolleys across.

Empty the sump before it fills — a bund holding 50 litres of old spill won't catch the next one. If you're dispensing daily, a drum rack with built-in drip tray and tap mount keeps the setup tidy and puts the bung at a comfortable height. For outdoor storage, add a cover or move the bund under a canopy; UV degrades polyethylene and rainwater dilutes whatever's already in the sump.
