Vehicle Manoeuvring

Vehicle manoeuvring gear — wheel dollies, hydraulic skates, transportacar trolleys, and traction tracks — moves cars, vans, or light commercials in tight spaces without starting the engine. Used in bodyshops, service bays, dealerships, and home garages when you need to shift a vehicle sideways, rotate it on the spot, or roll it out of a bay with a seized handbrake or flat tyres.

Wheel dollies sit under individual wheels and let you roll the vehicle in any direction. Sets of four work for full repositioning; single pairs handle axle-end moves or trailers. Hydraulic skates lift the wheel slightly with a foot pump, taking weight off the tyre so the castor rolls freely — useful on uneven floors or when the handbrake is stuck. Non-hydraulic wheel skates rely on the vehicle's own weight and roll easily on smooth concrete but can bind on rough surfaces.

Transportacar trolleys cradle a pair of wheels on a single platform, turning the vehicle into a shopping trolley. Adjustable-width models fit different track widths; economy versions have a fixed span and suit common hatchback dimensions. Check the span range against your wheelbase if you work on a mix of vehicles. Rated capacity is per trolley, so a 2-tonne unit handles one end of a 4-tonne vehicle when used in pairs.

Traction tracks bridge mud, gravel, or snow when a vehicle is bogged — lay them in front of the drive wheels to give the tyre something to grip. Also used as a loading ramp for low-clearance cars onto flatbeds. Sealey supplies the manoeuvring tools here; capacities range from 454 kg wheel dollies for light cars up to 900 kg adjustable dollies for vans and 4x4s. Match the rated load to the axle weight, not the gross vehicle weight.
