Air versus hand
Reciprocating air saws run at 10,000–12,000 strokes per minute, useful when you're cutting exhaust pipe, body panels, or removing seized fasteners. They need 4–6 CFM at 90 PSI, so check your compressor keeps up if you're running other tools on the same line. Blade change is usually a hex-key collar — keep the wrench tied to the hose or you'll lose it.
Hand hacksaws cut slower but give you control in tight spots and don't need air. A 300 mm frame takes standard blades; check tooth pitch against material — 18 TPI for general steel, 24–32 TPI for thin-wall tube or conduit. Adjustable frames let you fit broken blades or use the forward section when the back half dulls. Tension matters: a slack blade wanders and snaps, so wind the thumbscrew until the blade pings when plucked.
