Die Grinders
Die grinders run carbide burrs, mounted stones, and small abrasive wheels at high speed for porting, deburring, weld dressing, and detail grinding in tight spots. Straight-bodied models suit inline work; 90-degree angle heads let you get into corners and recesses where a bench grinder won't reach. Collet size—typically 6 mm or 3 mm—sets the shank diameter you can fit, so check your burr stock before you pick a tool.

Free speed—usually 20 000 to 25 000 rpm—tells you how the grinder will behave under load. Higher figures give a cleaner finish on hard material but need a steadier hand. Most machines take a quarter-inch airline and sit around 90 psi; check the coupling type if you're running quick-release fittings across the shop.
Straight vs angle: Straight bodies give better feel for long seams and flat surfaces. Ninety-degree heads let you dress welds inside frames, reach into valve pockets, and work the back of flanges without repositioning the workpiece. Long-reach variants add another 100–150 mm of standoff when you need to stay clear of hot metal or get behind structural members.
Carbide burrs cut ferrous and non-ferrous stock; mounted points in aluminium oxide or silicon carbide suit finer blending. Match grit to finish—coarse for stock removal, fine for polishing—and keep rotational direction consistent to avoid dig-in. Sealey and Premier both offer collet-and-guard kits; if you're switching between burr profiles regularly, a spare collet saves downtime.
