Head Torches

Head torches free both hands for close work in tight spaces — under dashboards, inside engine bays, behind panels, or anywhere a worklight won't reach. The range here covers rechargeable LED models from Sealey, with output from 1W to 5W and options for auto-sensor switching, hat-mount clips, and COB or SMD chips.

Pick output by task. A 1W SMD beanie-mount torch suits light assembly or finish work where you want low spill and long runtime. 3W models balance throw and battery life for general mechanical tasks. 5W COB or SMD heads push more flood into a workpiece at arm's length — useful for fitting or when you need to see deeper into a cavity.

Auto-sensor models switch off when you look directly at someone or a reflective surface, then relight when you turn away. That behaviour cuts glare complaints in shared workshops and avoids blinding yourself off polished panels, but the sensor adds a second or so of lag — fine for most jobs, less useful if you're flicking between angles constantly under load.

Rechargeable units charge via USB and skip the cost of disposable cells. Check whether the head tilts and locks — a fixed beam means moving your whole neck to redirect light. Elastic and silicone headbands stretch further than fabric and resist sweat and oil better, but they also snag on ear defenders. Hat-clip torches solve that if you're already wearing a cap or bump cap, though the mount adds bulk.

Red LED modes preserve night vision without washing out contrast on dark materials. COB chips spread a wide, even wash; SMD chips focus tighter with more throw. Match the beam type to the work — COB for panel gaps and fascia, SMD for anything you need to see from further back.
