Extension Leads & Plugs

Extension leads and plugs for workshop, site, and mobile work. 110V and 230V options to suit different power sources. RCD adaptors add fault protection where fixed RCDs aren't fitted. Multi-socket cubes with USB ports keep phones and tablets charged without blocking mains outlets. Sealey leads are built for trade use — check cable length and amp rating against your tools' draw before you buy.

Pick the voltage first. 110V is standard on construction sites where centre-tapped transformers are used; most hired kit runs on it. 230V suits workshop work and premises wired for mains voltage. Do not cross-connect them.

Match the amp rating to your load. A 13A lead handles up to 3kW; fine for grinders, drills, and most hand tools. 16A and 32A leads suit higher-draw gear like compressors and large mixers. Add up the current draw of everything you'll run at once — if it's close to the lead's rating, size up.

Cable length affects voltage drop. On a long run under heavy load, you lose volts at the far end. For 110V leads over 20 metres or 230V leads over 30 metres, check the tool still starts cleanly. If a motor struggles or trips the breaker, shorten the run or uprate the cable.

RCD adaptors fit between the plug and socket, tripping in milliseconds if earth leakage is detected. Use them when working outdoors, near water, or on older wiring without fixed RCD protection. They do not replace a proper earth — the circuit must still be correctly grounded.

USB outlets on cube extensions are rated at 2.1A or 2.4A per port, enough for phones and tablets. They won't fast-charge most laptops. If you need higher wattage USB-C PD, use a separate mains adaptor.
