Curtains & Blankets
Welding curtains and blankets shield people and materials from UV radiation, sparks, and spatter in shared or open workshops. Curtains on frames partition a workspace; blankets drape over machinery, stock, or flammable surfaces. Both meet EN ISO 25980:2014 for flame resistance and optical density. Choose frame size to match the weld bay, and blanket size to cover what's at risk.

Curtains typically mount to a steel or aluminium frame and use PVC-coated fabric rated for arc flash and UV blocking. Common heights are 1.75 m; widths from 1.3 m to 2.4 m suit single-operator bays through to wider MIG or TIG setups. The EN ISO 25980:2014 standard specifies both flame spread and light transmission limits—curtains block enough UV to protect bystanders without requiring a full welding helmet on the far side of the screen.
Welding blankets use fibreglass or aramid weave treated for spark and heat resistance. Fibreglass blankets handle spatter and grinding sparks; aramid versions tolerate higher continuous temperatures if you're working around preheated assemblies or oxy-fuel cutting. Check the size against what you're covering—a 2 × 1 m blanket suits a lathe bed or stack of sheet stock; smaller blankets work for draping over cable reels or toolboxes. Blankets fray at the edges over time; bound or hemmed edges last longer. Shake out embedded spatter after each shift so it doesn't smoulder into the weave.
