Pick lighting by lumen output and beam spread. LED site lights run cooler and draw less current than halogen equivalents; useful when you're daisy-chaining off a generator or limited circuit. Tripod-mount floods cover a wide area, magnetic or clamp bases work where floor space is tight. Check the IP rating if the light sits outdoors or in damp conditions — IP44 handles splashes, IP65 tolerates hosedown.
For power, match the extension lead to the load. 1.5 mm² cable suits hand tools and lighting; anything over 2 kW wants 2.5 mm² minimum. Generators are rated in kVA or kW — allow headroom for motor start-up surge, especially on compressors or large grinders. Inverter generators run quieter and hold steadier voltage; open-frame units cost less and tolerate rougher treatment.
Heaters: propane and diesel cabinet heaters throw serious BTU but need ventilation; electric fan heaters work in sealed spaces but pull heavy current. Size the heater to the volume and insulation — a 15 kW diesel unit will run a draughty barn, a 3 kW electric fan handles a small portacabin. Thermostatic control saves fuel; manual units run flat-out until you switch them off.
