4 Easy Mistakes to Avoid While Pressure Washing Your Home

Sometimes mopping and vacuuming the interior of your home isn’t quite good enough, and you need a proper wash on the outside of your home too. This is where a pressure washer comes in handy.

They provide a quick and easy wash of areas which are typically more difficult to clean, however, there are some things that you have to be careful of when using them.

Avoid these mistakes and you’ll have a beautiful, sparkling home with no problem…

Using too much pressure

One of the most common mistakes that people make when using a pressure washer is using too much pressure. It could cause damage to your concrete patio or wooden decking, it could strip paint and it could even crack glass.

Some parts of your home will be able to take more pressure than others. If you are going to be using your pressure washer for cleaning your house, opt for one with adjustable pressure to ensure you have no problems with this.

Only using water

It’s important to know that it’s not the water that does the cleaning, but in fact the cleaning solution that you use. By aimlessly spraying cold water on a dirty surface, you are attempting to break through a layer of dirt and clean it at the same time – you need something to break through this layer of dirt first and loosen it, before rinsing it away. That’s where cleaning solution comes in.

Plus by using a chemical in the washing process means that you don’t have to apply so much pressure to the water stream. This technique is called soft washing and will save you a lot of time and effort, and leave you with a much cleaner home than only water would.

Pressure washing sensitive areas

There are certain parts of your home that may not be able to stand up against your pressure washer. These more sensitive areas include places like door openings, drywall ceilings and non-water tight windows – all for very obvious reasons.

Try and steer clear of places where the water can get into your house – the places with a slight crack or the ones that aren’t sealed tight. Forgetting this could result in you having a lot of mess to clean up!

Cleaning in the wrong order

Finally, make sure you’re cleaning your home in the right order! By cleaning it in the wrong order, you’re only going to be increasing your workload. For example, if you clean your windows first and then clean your roof, the dirt from the roof will fall and make your windows dirty again.

The ideal order to clean your house in is: roof, house, flat surfaces and then windows. Get the order right and it will save you a lot of time!
