How to Get the Most Out of Your Pressure Cleaner

If you’re hiring a pressure cleaner, you will receive instructions on how to use it. Pressure cleaners can be dangerous if they’re not handled correctly so make sure you read the instructions carefully and wear the right safety equipment, such as safety goggles, gloves and a hard hat.

Every pressure cleaner will work a little bit differently, and this is reflected in the guidebook that comes with each cleaner. This is another reason you should always read the instructions, even if you’ve used a pressure cleaner before.

To make sure you get the best results from your pressure cleaner, we’ve come up with some tips and advice that will help you achieve an unbeatable clean.

Make sure everything is secure

Check all the connections of the hose are secure for air and water before you start to use the pressure cleaner. You will find that if there are any leaks, it won’t work properly, and you won’t get the results you were expecting. Also make sure that the power cord and plug is firmly in the socket.

Completely turn on your water source

If your model requires you to attach it to a water source, turn it up as much as possible. You will need as much water as your source can provide and you can then adjust the water pressure settings on your machine.

Only attach nozzles and attachments when it’s safe to do so

It may seem like common sense, but if you’re going to use a specific nozzle or end to the pressure cleaner, attach it when the machine is turned off and locked.

Protect your surroundings

Be careful to only aim the washer at the area you want to clean, and if possible, use tarps to protect surrounding light fixtures, plants, equipment and fragile building features.

Start on a low setting

Always start on the lowest setting when using your pressure washer. You can then slowly and safely increase the pressure as needed. You will also prevent potentially dangerous kickback.

Hold the cleaner at an angle

When you’re using a pressure cleaner, try to avoid pointing directly at the area you’re cleaning. Instead, hold it at an angle to wash away dirt and debris.

Use an up and down motion

When you’re cleaning a surface, start at the bottom before moving upwards. Bring the cleaner back down and continue in this way until the area is clean.

Pressure washers make it possible to clean a range of surfaces that would be otherwise impossible. One of the best tips is to do your research and find the right pressure cleaner for your purpose.
