Modern drills allow you to make holes of the required diameter in metal, wood, stone and other materials. The classification of drill bits is quite complex and includes many factors: purpose, performance, form. They can be divided into two main groups:

  • Drill bits for hard materials like metal
  • Drill bits for wood and other soft materials

The drills for metal differ by the presence of two longitudinal grooves, which divert the shavings to the side, as well as a special angle of sharpening. However, crown and conical drills for metal fall out of this series.
Crown bits are used to drill large holes and work with multilayer materials, while they are not particularly dependent on the power of the tool. The structure of the bits allows you to work even with the simplest drills. When selecting crown bits you should pay attention to the shank – it should be durable to prevent slipping in the chuck. Vibration and overheating will affect the wear of the drill.
