Most heat guns list two temperature settings or a variable range. The lower figure covers heat-shrink tubing, vinyl wrap, and paint softening; the upper range tackles powder-coated steel, UPVC welding, and rusted bolts. Variable models let you dial in between extremes — useful when you're working close to glass, wiring, or anything that scorches easily.

Nozzles change the airflow pattern. A reduction nozzle concentrates heat on a small spot (pipe fittings, solder joints). A fish-tail spreader covers wider strips of paint or film without scorching edges. Plastic-welding nozzles, typically 9 mm, feed rod into the seam as you move along the joint. Scrapers belong in the kit if you're stripping — trying to scrape cold paint wastes time, and overheating it creates fumes.

Wattage affects how quickly the element recovers when you slow your pass or hold the gun stationary. A 1600 W unit works for occasional site repairs; a 2000 W model keeps pace with production plastic work or continuous paint removal. LCD displays show live temperature — helpful for plastic welding where a 20 °C error can mean a weak seam or a melted part.
