Cooling System

Cooling-system tools for diagnostics and servicing on cars, vans, and commercial vehicles. Pressure testers pinpoint leaks in radiators and hose circuits; antifreeze hydrometers measure glycol concentration and freezing point; specialist couplers and hose tools reach tight spots on modern engine bays. Kits include adapters for European and Asian marques; dedicated testers separate ethylene and propylene formulations to give accurate readings.

Pressure test kits use a hand pump and gauge to pressurise the sealed cooling circuit, replicating running conditions without heat. Watch for gauge drop or visible weeps at hose clamps, core plugs, water-pump seals, and heater-matrix joints. Commercial kits include larger-diameter couplers and higher working pressures for truck radiators; adapters vary by cap thread (Scania, DAF, MAN all differ). Check the adapter list before buying if you service specific fleet marques.

Antifreeze testers come in three formats. Twin-rotor hydrometers use floating discs calibrated for ethylene or propylene glycol—read the scale that matches the coolant type, ignore the other. Tube types draw a sample into a glass column and float a single pointer; simpler but less precise in marginal readings. Ball and disc pocket testers are field tools for go/no-go checks; accurate enough to spot weak mix but not for setting exact concentrations. Ethylene and propylene have different specific gravities, so a tester marked for one will misread the other by several degrees.

Remote hose-clip pliers extend your reach to spring clamps buried behind intake manifolds or under brake servos. The cable-actuated jaw grips the tangs and holds them compressed while you slide the clip off the stub; releasing the handle reopens the tangs for refitting. Heavy-duty versions take larger commercial clamps without bending the cable housing.
